CSS MPT 2027 syllabus and marks distribution
The CSS MPT 2027 syllabus is not a new syllabus at all. Rule 10A of the CSS Competitive Examination Rules, 2019 (as amended by S.R.O. 1516(I)/2021) provides for one paper of multiple choice questions carrying 200 marks over 200 minutes, on the topics listed in Appendix‑III and the syllabi set out in Annexure‑C. Those syllabi are the ones already notified for the existing CSS compulsory subjects, with separate syllabi issued for Civics & Ethics and for Urdu. The weightage is what matters most for planning, and it is fixed:
| S. No. | Subject | MCQs | Marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Islamic Studies — non‑Muslim candidates may opt for Civics & Ethics | 20 | 20 |
| 2 | Urdu, including its grammar usage and translation | 20 | 20 |
| 3 | English, including its vocabulary, grammar usage and comprehension | 50 | 50 |
| 4 | General Abilities — basic arithmetic, algebra and geometry at SSC level, logical problem solving, analytical abilities and mental abilities | 60 | 60 |
| 5 | General Knowledge, including everyday science, current affairs and Pakistan affairs | 50 | 50 |
| Total | 200 | 200 |
English — 50 marks
Vocabulary, grammar usage and comprehension. Expect synonyms and antonyms, prepositions and phrasal verbs, tenses, active and passive voice, narration, sentence correction, idioms, and one or more short comprehension passages. This is the most reliably scorable section in the whole paper because the rules of English do not change from year to year.
General Abilities — 60 marks
The largest single component. Basic arithmetic, algebra and geometry at SSC level — percentages, ratio and proportion, profit and loss, averages, time, speed and distance, work and time, simple linear and quadratic equations, areas and volumes — together with logical problem solving, analytical reasoning and mental abilities such as number and letter series, coding and decoding, blood relations, directions, syllogisms and seating arrangements. Speed matters here more than anywhere else.
General Knowledge — 50 marks
Everyday science, current affairs and Pakistan affairs. Everyday science covers physics, chemistry, biology and earth science at a general level; Pakistan affairs runs from the Pakistan Movement through the constitutions, geography, economy and institutions; current affairs covers national and international developments, organisations and appointments.
Islamic Studies or Civics & Ethics — 20 marks
Islamic Studies covers the fundamentals of faith, the life of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), the Holy Qur’an and Hadith, the pillars of Islam and Islamic history. Non‑Muslim candidates may instead opt for Civics & Ethics, which covers citizenship, rights and duties, the organs of the state, democracy and constitutionalism, and applied ethics.
Urdu — 20 marks
Urdu grammar usage and translation — قواعد, parts of speech, idioms and proverbs, correct usage, and translation between Urdu and English. This mock renders the Urdu section right‑to‑left in a Nastaliq face so it reads the way a printed paper does.

How this free CSS MPT mock test works
Most online CSS MPT practice tests give you the question format. This one reproduces the examination conditions. You get one minute per question and not a second more, a countdown running alongside a stopwatch of time elapsed so you can feel your own pace, a question palette that distinguishes answered, visited and marked‑for‑review items, and keyboard shortcuts so you are not fighting the interface. There is no negative marking, exactly as in the real Preliminary Test, so the paper rewards attempting everything. Nothing is uploaded anywhere — your attempt lives in your own browser, and if you refresh by accident you can resume, although the clock will have kept running just as it would in the hall.
When you submit, or when the 200 minutes expire and the paper submits itself, you get a full result sheet: marks out of 200, your percentage, your position relative to the 66‑mark qualifying line, subject‑wise and topic‑wise scores with a level tag on each, an explicit three‑way split of strong areas, areas needing work and weak areas, timing analysis including average seconds per question, written suggestions generated from your own answer pattern, and a question‑by‑question review with the correct answer and an explanation you can filter to just the ones you got wrong.
How to prepare for the CSS MPT 2027
Work backwards from the weightage. General Abilities and English together carry 110 of the 200 marks, so accuracy and speed in those two decide the paper; a candidate who is strong in current affairs but slow at arithmetic will run out of clock before running out of knowledge. Give the quantitative and reasoning material daily practice rather than weekly cramming, because it is a skill and skills decay.
For the remaining 90 marks, spaced revision beats long sittings. Rotate through Everyday Science MCQs, Pakistan Studies MCQs, Islamic Studies MCQs and current affairs MCQs in short sessions, and build English vocabulary in context with synonyms and antonyms practice alongside regular editorial reading. Use Quiz Mode for quick timed drills on one topic and browse all MCQ categories when you want to target something specific.
Then sit a full‑length timed mock every week or two. The point is not the score; it is that 200 minutes of unbroken concentration stops feeling unusual, and that you learn where your own attention fails. Read the topic analysis at the end of each attempt and let it decide what you revise next, rather than revising what feels comfortable.
CSS MPT past papers and mock tests — what is the difference?
Past papers tell you what FPSC has asked before; a mock test tells you how ready you are right now. Both are useful and neither substitutes for the other. Solved CSS MPT past papers are worth working through for calibration of difficulty and for the recurring themes, but they have one built‑in limitation: once you have seen a paper, you can never sit it cold again. A fresh full‑length mock under a live clock is the only way to measure your current speed and stamina honestly. The questions on this page are written by our team to the notified pattern and weightage — they are original practice material, not a reproduction of any FPSC paper.
Frequently asked questions about the CSS MPT 2027
What is the MPT screening test for CSS 2027?
The MCQs Based Preliminary Test, or MPT, is the screening stage introduced by rule 10A of the CSS Competitive Examination Rules, 2019 as amended. It is a single objective paper that a candidate must qualify before being allowed to sit the main CSS written examination. It is conducted annually by the Federal Public Service Commission and a pass is valid only for the competitive examination of that same year.
How many MCQs are there in the CSS MPT?
There are 200 multiple choice questions carrying 200 marks in total. Each question is worth exactly one mark and has four options, of which only one is correct.
How many marks are required to pass the CSS MPT?
The qualifying threshold is 33 per cent of the total marks, which is 66 marks out of 200. Qualifying only shortlists you for the written examination; the MPT score carries no weight in the final CSS merit list.
Is there negative marking in the CSS MPT?
No. The rules governing the MPT do not provide for any deduction for a wrong answer, so leaving a question blank can only cost you marks. Attempt all 200 questions, making an informed guess where you are unsure.
How long is the CSS MPT 2027 paper?
The duration is 200 minutes, which is three hours and twenty minutes. That works out to an average of one minute per question, so pace is as important as knowledge. This mock test runs the same 200 minute clock and submits your paper automatically when time expires.
What is the CSS MPT 2027 syllabus and marks distribution?
Appendix III to the rules fixes the weightage as follows: Islamic Studies 20 marks, Urdu including grammar usage and translation 20 marks, English including vocabulary, grammar usage and comprehension 50 marks, General Abilities including SSC level arithmetic, algebra and geometry plus logical problem solving and analytical and mental abilities 60 marks, and General Knowledge including everyday science, current affairs and Pakistan affairs 50 marks. The syllabi are those of the existing CSS compulsory subjects, with separate syllabi notified for Civics and Ethics and for Urdu.
Can non-Muslim candidates take Civics and Ethics instead of Islamic Studies?
Yes. Appendix III allows a non-Muslim candidate to opt for Civics and Ethics in place of Islamic Studies for that 20 mark component. This mock test lets you choose either option before you start, and the paper is generated accordingly.
When is the CSS MPT for CE 2027 expected to be held?
According to the FPSC public notice for the MCQs Based Preliminary Test for CSS Competitive Examination 2027, the test is scheduled for Sunday, 27 September 2026 at centres across nineteen cities. Dates can be revised, so always confirm the current schedule on the FPSC website before making plans.
Who is eligible to apply for the CSS MPT 2027?
Broadly, a candidate needs at least a Bachelor’s degree in the second division from a recognised university and must be between 21 and 30 years of age, with age reckoned on the closing date given in the public notice. Age relaxation and other conditions apply as set out in the CSS Competitive Examination Rules. Check the official public notice on the FPSC website for the exact eligibility, fee and closing date that apply to you.
How many times can I attempt the CSS MPT?
The rules place no separate limit on the number of MPT attempts, subject to the general conditions of rule 6. However, a candidate who has already availed the three permissible chances at the CSS competitive examination is not eligible to appear in the Preliminary Test.
Are these questions actual CSS MPT past papers?
No. Every question in this mock test is written by the MCQsTutor team to match the notified pattern, subject weightage and difficulty level of the Preliminary Test. This is original practice material rather than a reproduction of past papers, and the page is not endorsed by or affiliated with FPSC.
Is this CSS MPT mock test free?
Yes. The full 200 question mock test, the timer, the result sheet, the strong and weak area analysis and the question by question review with explanations are all free, and no sign up or registration is required. Your attempt is stored only in your own browser and nothing is uploaded.
How should I prepare for the CSS MPT 2027?
Work backwards from the weightage. General Abilities and English together account for 110 of the 200 marks, so accuracy and speed in those two carry the paper. Build a daily habit of subject wise MCQ practice, revise Pakistan affairs and everyday science in short spaced sessions, read English editorials for vocabulary and comprehension in context, and sit a full length timed mock every week or two so that 200 minutes of sustained concentration stops feeling unusual. Use the topic analysis at the end of each attempt to decide what to revise next.
What happens at the end of this mock test?
You receive a full result sheet: your marks out of 200, your percentage, whether you cleared the 33 per cent qualifying line, subject wise and topic wise scores, an explicit split of your strong and weak areas, timing analysis including average time per question, written suggestions generated from your own answer pattern, and a question by question review with the correct answer and an explanation for each item.
Keep practising
Subject‑wise practice between mocks is what actually moves a score. Work through the MCQ banks for English, General Knowledge, Everyday Science, Pakistan Studies and Islamic Studies, use Quiz Mode for short timed drills on a single topic, and come back to this full CSS MPT 2027 mock test once you have closed the gaps it identified.
